Bye, $10K Gap
TRUTH IS, I DON’T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT MADE MY SPIDEY SENSES GO HOT.
Maybe because I've been trying to help women just like her for more than a MF minute.
A random trip to Dollar General, my daughter Hope needin' nailpolish or something of equal import—the woman hands me a long-stemmed pink rose.
It's not Mother's Day or even close, the rose is random-ish. She hands it to me and smiles, but she's mid-conversation with another customer.
Maybe it was the convo I heard-ish in the air?
"Isle two ..." or I don't know. I just knew.
Sure enough, at the checkout line, she's ringing up our goods and **eyeroll, OMG, Mom's talking to the people again**Hope, age 11
I said, "Hey, thanks for the rose."
"You're very welcome," she smiled warmly, genuinely. “It's to celebrate my new business, X Cleaning Services."
"Oh," I replied, but I already knew. Spidey Senses.
"You work here & you run a whole 'nother business?"
"Sure do," she beams. "I'm the General Manager of this store, and I'll run this, too, right until X Cleaning Services becomes my main business."
HERE'S WHAT I KNOW.
DAMNIT, I ALREADY KNEW THIS NEXT PART, TOO
"Nice," I say, "Congratulations! Does your business have a website, a place I can check out your services?"
She doesn't skip a beat.
"Nah," she shares. "Not yet. But I will, it's coming. We got a Facebook page, though, for now. But, yeah, we'll have a website up real soon."
"Hey, cool," I says, "that's exciting times! Congratulations, for real."
Here's what I knew was coming next, too, damnit I knew.
"Thank you!" Her smile. Pure megawatt S-I-N-C-E-R-I-T-Y, seriously. "I'm passionate, ya know. I'm invested, and I'm taking this business all the way, and I'm gonna take real good care of my people, ya know. I already pay them 20% above the rates around here because they got families. I want them to have full benefits and good pay, and maybe even a chance to buy into my business one day, ya know ..."
"MOM!"

Truth: We've all got to learn, and nearly 10 years ago, I "guestimated" $500 to be "about" what entrepreneurs could "afford" + proceeded to learn painful amounts about the differences between Websites and Website Projects of $10K + that are worth every mother-funnel penny & the copywriter earns a pretty penny above $9.61/hr for 10K reasons.
